Chamber Music Festival - Minoa Palace Resort - Athens State Orchestra Woodwind Quintet

Athens State Orchestra Woodwind Quintet

Founded in the autumn of 2013, the Athens State Orchestra Woodwind Quintet was established with the aim of promoting the chamber music repertoire written for this ensemble while introducing audiences to the distinctive sound and expressive possibilities of the woodwind instruments. Since its formation, the Quintet has presented a wide range of educational and community outreach activities throughout Greece, reaching audiences from Kastellorizo and Crete to Soufli, as well as many of the country's remote islands served by the so-called "non-profitable" ferry routes. Its educational initiatives include school presentations and masterclasses for municipal wind bands, conservatories, and music schools. Its social outreach has brought performances to special education schools, rehabilitation centres, charitable organisations, and correctional institutions.

The ensemble has appeared in numerous concert halls and outdoor venues across Greece, presenting an extensive and varied repertoire of major works for woodwind quintet.

The Quintet is comprised of the principal players of the Athens State Orchestra: Vangelis Stathoulopoulos (flute), Christina Pantelidou (oboe), Spyros Mourikis (clarinet), Odysseas Bassios (bassoon), and Grigoris Assonitis (horn).
