
Makrina Troullou
Makrina Troullou was born in Nicosia 1995 into a family of musicians. At the age of 5 she started learning the piano with her mother and at 11 the oboe with Laura Rodgers, gaining a scholarship from the Foundation of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. One year later she joined the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra (2007-2014). During those years she served the orchestra both as principal and sub principal oboe collaborating with renowned conductors and performing in festivals such as Kypria International Festival and International Istanbul Youth Festival. At the age of 17 she gained the Grade 8 of the Royal Schools of Music with Distinction and took part in many youth orchestras around Europe such as National Youth Orchestra of Scotland (2013), Internationale Junge Orchesterakademie (2014), Deutsche-Skandinavische Jugend Philharmonie (2015), Neue Philharmonie München (2016) in both principal and subprincipal positions. In addition, in summer of 2013 she was selected in the reserved list of the European Union Youth Orchestra. Next to her orchestral experience and despite her young age, Makrina enjoyed performing as a soloist with professional orchestras. In 2013 she performed Bach’s Double concerto for violin and oboe with Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and in 2018 Albinoni’s Double concerto for two oboes with Cyprus Chamber Orchestra. Today, Makrina Troullos holds a Diploma in oboe performance from Conservatory of music and Drama of Athens with highest Distinction and first prize in the class of Dimitris Vamvas. She was a scholar of the academy of the Athens State Symphony Orchestra (2017-19). Since then, she is often invited back to join the orchestra together with all the major Greek orchestras: Philharmonia Orchestra of Athens, Municipal Symphony Orchestra of Athens and Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since 2020 she is oboe and chamber music teacher at the National Conservatory of Nea Smyrni in Athens. Last but not least, she had the joy to play with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under the program ‘Side by side’ and follow masterclass with great oboists such us Alexei Ogrintchouk, Cristian Wetzel, Nick Deutsch, Karel Schoofs, Nicolas Cock-Vassiliou and Francesco Quaranta.
